Today was my second to last day in the school Malanday and I started to feel sad already. Although I have only been with these students for four days, there love and enthusiasm had hit me strongly. I also had the honor to work with Teach for the Philippines Fellow Janel. Her personality in the classroom while teaching fosters a very positive environment where the students are comfortable and feel safe to volunteer answers even if they are not positive it is correct. It is clear that the students respect and have lots of love for her. The joy she radiates in the classroom is something I would like to take back to America with me and try to replicate with my high school students.
Today's English lesson involved learning types of sentences including imperative and exclamatory. Last week, students learned interrogative and declarative sentence types. In order to help the students remember the purpose or use of each type of sent next, I made a colored sign with the type of sentence on one side and the purpose of it on the other. For example, imperative was written on the front and command was written on the back. I am excited to build on this lesson tomorrow (my last day with the students) by playing Simon says to demonstrate the use of imperative sentences. I also plan to have the students listen to popular songs and assign the sentence types to different lyrics they just heard!
Until next time,
